Laura Summers
Surgery Aftercare Nurse
Laura Summers is a Registered General Nurse (RGN) who qualified from Bournemouth University in 2013. She started her career in haematology and oncology, which enabled her to master many advanced nursing skills early in her career.
Laura then moved into plastic and reconstructive surgery and worked autonomously from a clinic for a leading national cosmetic surgery company. She nursed her patients from initial consultation through to discharge at six weeks post-operatively, which included wound care and complication management, drain removal, suture and clip removal, and psychological support and reassurance.
During this time, she also worked in operating theatres to gain experience before, during and after the procedure. Since then, she has worked with many leading independent surgeons, solidifying her industry knowledge.
Her passion for this speciality has enabled her to recognise and understand the psychological and physical journey of clients when they undergo elective cosmetic procedures.
Laura has now supported over 600 patients throughout their surgical journey. During this time, she has completed additional courses in wound care, recognising sepsis and counselling. She frequently attends industry conferences with top surgeons to keep her skills up to date and to offer the best advice and support to her patients.
She liaises closely with all the surgeons whose patients she provides post-operative aftercare to, which means she can quickly and effectively escalate concerns on a patient’s behalf if they require a consultant’s opinion or additional reassurance.
Laura is proud to be a fully insured, registered CQC manager and a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) and the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Nurses & Associated (BAAPSNA).
