Annakan launches YouTube Channel

Ear, Nose & Throat surgeon Mr Annakan Navaratnam is delighted to announce the launch of his YouTube channel. The information will be for educational purposes only, but Annakan hopes to answer many of the common queries he’s posed by his patients, from how to use a nasal spray properly to when it’s safe to exercise after a rhinoplasty.

It will also be an opportunity to include video content for other medical professionals. Annakan is a passionate educator and is actively involved in training the next generation of surgeons, as well as also frequently teaching local and national instructional ENT courses.

I was referred to Mr Navaratnam for nasal surgery after years of suffering from chronic nasal polyps and was extremely frustrated after managing it poorly for so long. Mr Navaratnam was comprehensive and thoughtful with each consultation and really took the time to walk me through every angle of my symptoms, the procedure, after care, and future management. I was quite nervous about the surgery but felt so comfortable in Mr Navaratnam’s capable hands. The surgery was a success and he truly changed my life. I can breathe properly, and taste and smell food, for the first time in about 5 years. He even referred me to his NHS practice so I could continue receiving care outside of my insurance, which is a true testament to the quality of care he provides.

Having Dr Annakan Navaratnam as my consultant for my septorhinoplasty has honestly been one of the best experiences I’ve had in healthcare throughout my entire life.

Not only did he do an incredible job and genuinely change my quality of life for the better, but his empathy, warmth and patience, all alongside his deep expertise, have made me feel incredibly secure, looked after and calm throughout the entire process.

He has shown so much commitment to being there for his patients, all the way from pre-surgery to over a year afterwards. I was certainly nervous on the day of my procedure, and he still found so much time to be there, reassure me and make me feel at ease both before and afterwards on the ward. You never feel like a patient on a conveyor belt.

On that note, he has always made me feel incredibly comfortable in our appointments, and clearly cares deeply about every one of his patients. I never feel rushed, and he always makes a real effort to ensure I’m happy and that any concerns are properly addressed. Alongside this, he is very attentive to your overall health and, without hesitation, makes sure the ball is always in motion for any other investigations you may need.

This isn’t a consultant who simply does the job, ticks the boxes and ushers you away for a follow-up in the distant future, impossible to reach in the meantime. He is an incredible consultant and surgeon who is deeply passionate about caring for his patients and his speciality. I always know that if I need help or advice, he is easy to get in touch with, and that is incredibly rare.

I had septorhinoplasty earlier this year to correct a deviated septum and felt nervous following previous operations.  However, Annakan and his team made me feel completely at ease throughout the entire process.

On the day of surgery everything went perfectly, Annakan's excellent bedside manner made the experience comfortable. He is incredibly talented, polite, knowledgeable and friendly, and  was always available both before and after the surgery to answer any questions or concerns I had.

Dr. Annakan kindly treated our four-year-old son after he suffered a broken nose, successfully repositioning it under a general anaesthetic. From start to finish, both Dr. Annakan and his anaesthetist colleague, Dr. Yumna, provided exceptional care. They made what could have been a very stressful experience feel completely seamless. Their warmth, professionalism and reassuring manner immediately put us at ease and, most importantly, they made our young son feel comfortable and safe throughout.

Dr. Annakan is clearly an excellent surgeon, but what really sets him apart is the genuine care he shows for his patients and their families. Choosing a surgeon for revision rhinoplasty was one of the most daunting decisions I’ve ever had to make. After already having a poor experience with my first rhinoplasty, I was anxious about putting my trust in someone again.

From my very first consultation with Mr Navaratnam, I felt completely at ease. There was never any pressure to book surgery or make a decision. In fact, he encouraged me to have consultations with other surgeons before deciding, but I honestly didn’t feel the need to. Something just felt right from that first appointment, and I’m so glad I trusted my gut.

I explained everything that had happened with my primary rhinoplasty, and he immediately understood the issues. He took the time to explain, in simple terms, exactly what had happened to my nose, drawing diagrams and even showing me some of his own published research to help me understand. It was obvious that he had an exceptional depth of knowledge and experience.

He came to see me before surgery to go through everything one last time, and he was there again as soon as I woke up afterwards. Those moments meant so much and made me feel genuinely cared for. The aftercare was equally outstanding. I always had access to a specialist nurse 24 hours a day, and whenever she needed to check something with him, he responded incredibly quickly. I never felt like I was dealing with my recovery alone.

I’m now just two months post-op, and I’m honestly still amazed every time I look in the mirror. Before this surgery, I had reached a point where I felt hopeless and didn’t think my nose could ever look the way I wanted it to. Somehow, he achieved a result that is even better than the morphs we discussed before surgery. He managed my expectations so carefully, which I now realise was incredibly humble because the outcome has gone far beyond what I thought was possible. My nose looks so natural, fits my face perfectly, and has given me a level of confidence I haven’t felt in years. It’s difficult to put into words just how much this has changed my life.

I also want to mention his secretary, Claire, who was wonderful throughout the whole process. As I had a long way to travel, she was always so friendly, patient, and accommodating, making everything as easy as possible.

Mr Navaratnam is an experienced, expert surgeon coupled, unusually, with a genuinely thoughtful bedside manner and real empathy.
