Study published on triple-layer technique for nasal septal perforation repair
Mr Annakan Navaratnam and colleagues at the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals, one of the UK’s largest hospitals for ENT surgery, published an article in Facial Plastic Surgery & Aesthetic Medicine on surgical repair of nasal septal perforations.
The repair of nasal septal perforations is technically challenging, and the study authors detailed their use of a triple-layer flap technique suitable to moderate-to-large septal perforations. They reported on 26 consecutive patients who have been treated in the past five years adopting this technique.
Their data confirmed that the triple-layer technique is reliable and suitable for the closure of moderate-to-large septal perforations. Results indicated a higher rate of complete perforation closure, especially for moderate (72.7%) and large (85.7%) perforations.
